Cloud infrastructure expansion, agentic AI advancement, and national security initiatives took center stage today during the keynote of the AWS Summit Washington, DC. The annual gathering in the nation’s capital showcased the continued commitment of Amazon Web Services (AWS) to public sector innovation and digital transformation.

Dave Levy, vice president of Worldwide Public Sector at AWS, delivered the keynote address, discussing how the company provides all the building blocks—compute, storage, databases, and inference—that customers need to bring impactful ideas to life. The session also included announcements about infrastructure growth, updates on the company’s AI capabilities, and examples of how public sector organizations are using AI to meet their missions.

Levy was joined on stage by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s Chief Strategy Officer Dr. Aneaze Offodil, and Pearson CEO Omar Abbosh. These distinguished speakers demonstrated how cloud technology and artificial intelligence are reshaping government, healthcare, and education.

Key announcements

New AWS Secret Region expansion for classified workloads

AWS announced plans to launch AWS Secret-West Region by the end of 2025, marking the company’s second Secret Region accredited to support workloads up to the Secret classification level. This expansion reinforces AWS’s commitment to supporting the US government’s classified missions with infrastructure that meets the requirements for data residency, privacy, and security.

Amazon will invest $30 billion to build AI infrastructure in two US states

Amazon affirmed its commitment to help advance US leadership in AI with plans to invest at least $30 billion in AI infrastructure across Pennsylvania and North Carolina. With these strategic investments in advanced computing systems, the company hopes to create the technological backbone that will power the generative and agentic AI era.

Intelligence community uses cloud and AI technology to advance national security

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard shared her vision for the future of national intelligence using AI and machine learning. She cited examples of how AI has transformed operations in the intelligence community as well as her perspectives on areas that are ripe for AI innovation.

Memorial Sloan Kettering advances cancer research with AI

Dr. Anaeze Offodile from the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center shared insights on how the institution uses AWS to accelerate cancer research and treatment through AI-powered innovation and cloud technology.

Pearson reimagines education through AI

Omar Abbosh from Pearson detailed the company’s expanded collaboration with AWS to deliver AI-powered personalized learning products, addressing the $1.1 trillion annual economic impact of career inefficiencies and learning gaps.

AWS demonstrates commitment to supporting cloud and AI innovation

AWS marked one year since the launch of the Generative AI Impact Initiative, a $50 million investment to support public sector organizations using AWS generative AI services and infrastructure, The initiative debuted at the last year’s AWS Summit Washington, DC. Since launch, almost 300 organizations have received cloud credits, training, and technical expertise for their projects, which range from revolutionizing laboratory support to enhancing university operations. The initiative remains open until the end of June 2026 for new and existing customers and partners.

The keynote concluded with a surprise announcement for graduates of the AWS Information Infrastructure Pre-Apprenticeship program, who received full-time job offers from AWS, demonstrating the company’s ongoing commitment to workforce development in the public sector.
