My Short Term Review of Instana
What do you like best about the product?
The footprint of Instana is small, providing continuous discovery and capturing of metrics with negligible manual human intervention.
What do you dislike about the product?
Currently, I do not dislike any features of Instana.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Instana is solving the component and technology discovery task and reducing manual human intervention, which significantly reduces the overhead cost of manual metric collection and analysis.
Simple tool
What do you like best about the product?
Saves time and reduces the amount of manual work required. It is effective at real-time monitoring and the tool is able to identify and recognise problems that are occurring at any given time.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes instances that are listed in the product can be quite confusing and so may feel overwhelming when you initially start. However with continued use and practice, then over time as a SME user, it will be easy to navigate and understand.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In the business we required system monitoring. IBM solves this problem by allowing the ability to view system monitoring via several panels which allows report generation and therefore the analysis involved in order to make operational decisions.
I use the instana to monitor our company infrastructure almost all the components
What do you like best about the product?
I like the way it displays the servers in the dashboard. Also, I like the details captured for every incoming requests to the server.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it throws false alarms.need improvement there
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps companies identify the issues/problems on the servers, like the resource bottleneck, throughput issues, performance issues and any issues in running applications (In our case JVM).
Great tool to measure application performance
What do you like best about the product?
I like the way to accelerate CI/CD pipelines.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike documentation that is not always accurate
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Improving a lot CI/CD pipelines
I love Instana
What do you like best about the product?
I enjoying using Instana to for distributed tracing of our microservices setup
What do you dislike about the product?
.Net Instana.Tracing.Core.Rewriter.Linux is not easy to customize the instrumentation.json
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Error logging and distributed tracing is helping monitoring the microservices setup
Fast insightful information while troubleshooting
What do you like best about the product?
Automatically discover a lot of precious information to drive problem analysis, any new technology we introduce, our Instana installation is able to detect it and provide us with details of the running services
What do you dislike about the product?
Agents inside cluster workers are resource hungry, this should be carefully considered because you need to plan upfront spare resources to account for this additional load
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Modern architectures applications involve a lot of eterogeneous collaborating services so troubleshooting can be very complex without the right tools like Instana
A powerful and holistic tool - with a steeper learning curve than others
What do you like best about the product?
The feature-richness. Tracing requests across service boundaries and retrieving information about the corresponding context, runtime, and tech stack work pretty well, and there are many other things you can do.
What do you dislike about the product?
The feature-richness. It can be and for me sometimes still is a bit overwhelming. The UI is good, but even with a good UI, it can be a bit strenuous to get the relevant information and dig through the tech stacks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It meets the need for a holistic, all-in-one tracing and APM solution. As a software engineer, I'm primarily using it for debugging incoming requests throughout the architecture.
good overall and specific vision of services
What do you like best about the product?
be able to view all types of information in a well-organized way and at different levels
What do you dislike about the product?
does not separate requests properly when you have a batch process
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
the possibility to view traces
Powerful tool once set up, good for app monitoring
What do you like best about the product?
Instana is a powerful tool once it is set up. I like to use it to monitor my apps, their resource usage and performance, and trace HTTP calls. Good for filtering successful 200 calls and unsuccessful HTTP statuses too.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like that sometimes Instana crashes, so then I lose some monitoring for a period of time although this is a rare occasion. Sometimes if the HTTP requests aren't frequent / continuous, then Instana doesn't pick it up.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Instana allows me to easily view the health of my Kubernetes clusters and see how the pods are performing across different groups. This means that we can quickly resolve any issues if the services become offline because of e.g. too much memory usage.
