Undecided Majors Welcomed, Scholarships Available
What do you like best about the product?
Not sure what you want to be when you grow up, even if you already have professional degrees? I love the variety of free and paid courses from renowned educational institutions from around the world. Exceptional, high quality and well-developed, these courses allow students to explore their interests and develop new skills. I've taken 2 courses with certificates, thanks to their scholarships. Needless to say, I'm very thankful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing. The good far outweighs any negatives.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Developing and exploring professional skills.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
These courses are packed with resources, community interaction, projects, and other interactive materials. Take advantage!
Amazing concept and platform for learning
What do you like best about the product?
Top-notch information from leading professors on the field.
What do you dislike about the product?
I started several courses but never finished. No feedback for assignment takes away the motivation. The student has to be fully self-motivated.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Learning to expand my expertise as well as to acquire knowledge in new fields.
Coursera delievers you the best source for university level education
What do you like best about the product?
I've taken several free courses there and as far as I can say, the quality is really good (well-structured, convenient etc.) As for effectiveness of the particular course, you can always review(audit) all the offered materials and decide if it is what you are looking for before paying anything.
What do you dislike about the product?
The problem with Coursera are the moderation in the forums. From the few courses I have taken, many of my classmate were criticized heavily or bullied from other classmates for asking questions in the forum. This hasn’t give any attention with the forum moderators which makes the community feel unease with helping each other.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have taken courses like, "Introduction with MATLAB" for educational reasoning. I was able to learn a lot with the videos the course offers and the homework challenges my critical thinking skills. Cousera also have courses which requires payment. But it's definitely affordable and worth than paying over $1000 on a course in college.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Yes, anyone who is willing to invest time for their education. They could also earn certificates to aid their experience/knowledge for work related reasons.
A virtual university where the best professors in the world teach
What do you like best about the product?
I have been using Coursera for more than 5 years now, and I have learned some of the fundamental courses in Computer Science from the best professors in the world on Coursera. Without Coursera, I would have a difficult time in finding the quality material on various topics in Computer Science. I like the fact that one either audit a course or a complete a certification, I like both the options. Also, the course materials like handouts and slides are of great quality. The exercise problems are challenging that forces a student to apply the knowledge gained. Overall the learning experience is highly rewarding.
What do you dislike about the product?
Most of the courses and the related materials used to be freely available on Coursera. However, with the recent changes, some of the courses are categorized into specific tracks, and they are not free anymore. However I am glad that one can still audit the paid courses, but access to the course materials may be limited.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Coursera provides access to high-quality materials on various topics in Computer Science. One can build their career in specialized tracks like data analytics, UI/UX design, etc., by completing the courses on Coursera. Also, these days the Coursera certifications are appreciated and accepted by various software development and research firms which is a great incentive for completing certifications on Coursera.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Coursera is an online learning platform that offers courses taught by the best professors in the world. Hence, investing in learning through Coursera is guaranteed to have high returns. As the Coursera certifications are becoming widely known, if someone is trying to build a career on a specific track, taking Coursera courses for certifications is highly recommended.
Coursera
What do you like best about the product?
It had a large variety of course offerings to choose from.
What do you dislike about the product?
I did not see any that were more rigorous in nature. The information presented was pretty basic. Some of the lectures were very boring as the instructor was monotone and basically reading slides.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used it to review some subjects as a refresher course. This helped me in preparing information for my own undergraduate courses in areas in which I have not taught for many years.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There are a variety of topics to choose from but the material covered is pretty basic. They can be helpful as a review, but not for significant detail.
Take any class you want, on your timeline!
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to search for classes from different Universities and decide when to take them
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing really, I'm a big fan of Coursera!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Personal development in areas i did not study in college
Coursera --a great resource for classes!
What do you like best about the product?
The best thing about Coursera is the variety of courses they offer, and many of them are free of charge! I find it can encourage you to explore courses that you might not usually look into.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the courses are very short! Lots of work to do in a short amount of time. It would be nice to have less work spread out over more weeks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Learning new skills and trying new classes. I have realized the benefit of utilizing resources for free classes and access to education.
Great variety of courses
What do you like best about the product?
The variety of courses, the structure and the user experience. I also like the peer to peer review which brings some external opinion of our work.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some courses need updating. They are good but compared to other platforms that deliver high quality videos, some of the courses could do with a refresh. Also the length of the videos. Having shorter, snappier videos would help I think with accompanying text.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I've managed to upskill in my field
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Freemium model can be a little intrusive and offputting but the quality and variety of courses is worth it.
A great way to brush up and increase your knowledge base of a subject
What do you like best about the product?
I like that the class I took was self-paced, so I could review the modules on my own time whether it be before work, after work or on the weekends.
What do you dislike about the product?
It was a little difficult to stay motivated and complete the whole class since it was self-paced. I would like to see them maybe send out emails if there is some inactivity, to try to get you to log back in and continue.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I took an Excel class, to continue my knowledge of Pivot tables and other algorithms you can use Excel for. It was a great resume booster, in addition to my current skills and I think it really showed my interviewers that I am eager to learn and grow, so I ended up getting a job I wanted due to my interest in taking classes like this. I did not take the class to try and get the job I have, but I do feel it did help set me apart from other candidates when I did end up looking for a new career.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is a great resourse if you have an interest in something, but do not want to take a full college course or go back to college. If you want to stay busy and build some skills casually, this is a great alternative to a college. It also helps boost a resume, as it shows you are genuinely interested in learning new things, and growing.
